In 2006 Gabrielle received an email from a friend chronicling her recent participation in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in NYC.
She was so inspired by her friend's experience that she vowed to join her the following year and walk 39 miles towards the eradication
of Breast Cancer. She was excited to begin her journey and catch up on time that had, unfortunately, passed the two friends by.
The following year, Gabrielle and her inspirational friend, Deana Fumando, set out for Chicago along with 5 other girls to try and make a difference in the lives of women living with Breast Cancer. The experience left her so moved that her and Deana swore to each other at mile 22 of 39 that they would walk every year together until a cure was found.
With several cities now behind them, Gabrielle, Deana and their dear friend, Taralynn VanBrunt, dreamt of more. They wanted to find a way to reach more women and their families who were fighting this disease everyday. They wanted to make a distinct difference. They wanted to shape the way they helped the lives that inspired them to begin with.
So, in 2007, they formed the Next Generation Foundation and started on their journey to educate, inspire and support the younger generation to become actively involved in their fight. To look outside of their own lives, touch the lives of others and to work towards eradicating the diseases that steal the lives of those we love.
Gabrielle has not only poured herself into this cause because of the lives of friends that she has lost, but also in an effort to save the lives of those still living.
In 2009, Gabrielle was blessed by the birth of her first son, Jackson. He inspires her to continue her work in the fight against cancer so that he will never know what it feels like to lose anyone to such a horrible disease. It is also her hope that she will inspire him to follow her example of giving of yourself for the benefit of others and to know that no one voice in life is too small to be heard. Anyone at anytime can make a difference when they believe they can.
